Disney Movies 5 For A Dollar! Are you a movie fan who loves to know all the info? Are you a TV aficionado who is able to name the locales of shows? Then the Spott app for Android is just for you. Learn more about the app that may give your entertainment knowledge the path cred you need.
I be honest. I have useless entertainment knowledge. I'm the individual my friends visit when they have to know the name of the show having a particular theme song or what the naming of that character was who appeared as if Shaggy from Scooby Doo but handled a car (the result, FYI, is Tinker and also the show was Speed Buggy, that has been one with the many 'mysteries inc' cartoon imitators of the 60s and 70s).
While in an everyday setting, this useless knowledge is, well...useless, guess who's obtaining the call when someone gets the option to phone an associate from a game show set. Oh yeah. Me.
But sometimes my useless entertainment knowledge can fail me. Often, I might not know the answer to a matter in regards to the location of a movie or film (gasp!). Lucky for me personally and you other entertainment lovers available, Android developers knew that certain day, at some remote time from the day, we'd need to know this stuff.
So they made an app.
Spott is definitely an Android app from Inochi Ventures that permits you to learn more about your selected films and TV which was made within your own backyard. Using your phone's GPS system, Spott allows users with the idea to browse by movie/show or their location to learn interesting info about that movie, show, or actors.
For example, Stapleton International Airport (now Denver IA) was manchester international in the movie "Die Hard 2" with Bruce Willis. Up until recently, I had no idea how the hotel inside movie "Dumb and Dumber" been the Stanley Hotel, which was also the inspiration and setting for Stephen King's popular book and movie, "The Shining".
Along with giving users the ability to see their town in a very whole new way, you can also buy movies with the app, plus you can send in your individual photo from your famous locale in your neighborhood.
The interface for Spott is not hard to manuever around - you'll be able to choose movies or shows by title, location, or movies which can be near you. Obviously the nearby feature is the better, particularly if you're traveling or recently moved. As noted, movie locations near my new town of Denver and the state of Colorado are pretty popular.
Another highlight is the ability to view stills from movies, though for a lot of there aren't possibly you would find if you did a fairly easy Google search, so that as mentioned, you can buy DVDs of movies from the app. While an appealing concept, I'm not really confident that I want to purchase movies out and about. It would likely to end up better in the event you could watch said movie instead.
One issue with this app will be the fact that there's not a lot of Spotts yet. For instance, being a former Tucson High Badger, my claim they can fame is that this movie "Can't Buy Me Love" with pre-McDreamy Patrick Dempsey was filmed at our school, but I couldn't discover a listing when applying my former local zipcode. High point though is that I learned parts of Casablanca were filmed within the nearby capital of scotland - Flagstaff, it's nice to find out that a classic grayscale film is listed.
There is also another downsides, for example actor listings, which might be meh at best, however, that's where the Spotters thing will come in. Too bad this app didn't appear before I moved.
As a show and TV fan who occurs love trivia, this is a pretty good app to have in case you've got an Android phone. Definitely the highlight with this app is always to view a wide variety of locations of film scenes, though I think most of the people will be interested in where their hometown or current town factors in a variety of movies and shows.
A disappointment is a few areas miss, which is often annoying for users who know a certain movie or show was filmed within their neck in the woods. But to counter this, users can supply images and upload them to Spott. This is actually a fantastic social interaction that gets fans involved because they proudly show off their cities and states.
I think a large let down will be the fact that this app isn't free; with just a small amount of information, this ought to be a free app that gets upgraded to purchase more expenses (like to be able to buy and download movies). Luckily, the cost isn't too hefty -- only a dollar and some change, therefore it might actually be really worth the purchase only when to hope Inochi builds the app with fan interaction and loyalty.
You can find the app here from the Android Market.
